Subject: Checking in & here for you
Dear swimmers and families,
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart as we navigate this time of loss. Please know that I care deeply about each of you—not just as swimmers, but as people. Grief can show up in a lot of ways, and whatever you’re feeling right now is okay.
I also want you to know that my classroom, Room 504, is always open as a safe space. If you need a quiet place to sit, take a breath, talk, or just not be alone for a little while, you are welcome to come by. You don’t have to have the “right words.” Just showing up is enough.
A few questions, if you’re willing:
- How are you holding up today?
- What do you need most right now—space, support, routine, someone to listen?
- Is there anything you’d like me to know about how you or your swimmer is doing?
- Would it help to connect you with a counselor or another support at school?
If you’d rather not reply to this email, that’s completely okay too. You can stop me in the hallway, leave me a note, or simply come by.
We will continue to be a team through all of this—one another’s support, steady and kind.
With care,
Vanessa Kennedy
